Oscar® Scores: Dangerous Liaisons (18) + ScreenTalk with George Fenton

Cinema 2

Love and cynicism make for a heady mix in this 1988 adaptation of the scandalous novel by Choderlos de Laclos, directed by Stephen Frears.

The Marquise De Merteuil (Glenn Close) and Vicomte De Valmont (John Malkovich) are two of a kind; clever, lusty and keen to play games with the more innocent members of high society. When the Marquise loses a lover to a virginal bride (Uma Thurman), she gives her ally Valmont a task: to seduce the happily married Madame de Tourvel (Michelle Pfeiffer). To the Marquise’s disdain, the pair fall unexpectedly in love and the real games of betrayal begin.

All this intrigue is soundtracked by George Fenton’s excellent, Oscar-nominated score; we are delighted to welcome him to speak about his compositions and career after the film screening.
