This fairly traditional pantomime was written by John Hartoch, one of the acting company at the Duke’s Playhouse. He also wrote the lyrics to the songs, of which I think there were ten or so. To all intents and purposes, it was a musical comedy. John and I got on well, which was fortunate, since the show was successful enough for us to be asked to create the following year’s panto. I was thrilled: a future engagement meant my foot was properly through the professional door.
