The Calam’Art Quartet is an exceptional musical ensemble, bringing together the timbres and dynamics of wood and metal. The singing reeds of their clarinets and saxophones give voice to the sweet and the sharp, the sad and the sardonic, the dark and the droll.
The Calam ‘Art Quartet’s Isabelle Stimbre wrote to composer Gary Yershon to say how entranced she was by the textures of his score for Mike Leigh’s Mr Turner, A few months later, Gary had composed Des Vents for the ensemble. The premiere of this new piece fits naturally into the programming of British Screen 2020, which is celebrating Gary’s work for cinema.
The Calam ‘Art Quartet is: Isabelle and Nicolas Strimbre (clarinets), Sébastian Priego and Jonathan Robert (saxophones).
Here is an excerpt from a new recording of Des Vents by Simon Haram and Andy Findon (saxophones), Chi-Yu Mo and Christopher Richards (clarinets)
