By convention, the theme of a set of variations is stated at the start. However, the theme of LOCKDOWN VARIATIONS comes at the end of a musical mystery tour. Eleven variations, deploying a wide variety of styles and techniques, conceal, complicate and camouflage the theme before it finally reveals itself. The work was written to entertain a particular flautist friend of the composer during the coronavirus lockdown March-June 2020. An exciting new addition to the solo flute repertoire.
