Scrooge (1935)

Before Michael Caine, before Bill Murray, even before Alastair Sim – there was Seymour Hicks who starred as Ebenezer Scrooge in this first talkie version of  Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Screenwriter,Ming Ho is the guest for the final Q&A of the season, followed by a festive Christmas-carol-singsong led by special guest Gary Yershon.

Hosted at the Kino Cinema, Bermondsey by Dominic Delargy of the Soho Bites podcast & Dr Lawrence Napper, Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at Kings College, London, this is part of the second series of screenings of 1930s “Quota Quickies”. Each screening is followed by a Q&A with a specially invited expert guest and a recording of the event (plus some extra goodies) is packaged up and released as a podcast shortly afterwards.
